5 WAYS TO CREATE TIME FOR YOUR GO-TO HUSTLE

General life balance is incredibly important for sanity and productivity. Wether you have a full time course, or you’re in a part time job, we all have other dreams and passions we want to pursue and finding the time for your go-to hustle can be really difficult. I always thought I could easily balance medical school and content creation but evidently that’s not as easy and it’s something I’m still trying to work out.

So I recently intentionally thought of ways to create time to do the things I really love without compromising on the important things i.e my personal relationships, academics, content creation or church activities. We ought to be most productive in our 20’s and coincidentally that is the time we are in college/varsity and everything seems to be a rush. I don’t want to wake up one day and wonder “how did I turn 30 so fast” – with most of my dreams still not a reality. You can never get more time so you intentionally have to create more of it

So here are five ways that I believe can help with time balance.

1. SET A TIME LIMIT FOR YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA

TIME SAVED: 2/3HOURS

There’s no debate, our generation currently spends A LOT of time online, especially on social media. It saves a great deal if you set a limit to the time you spend online. If I’m mindful and come online only when necessary I realized I’m able to save a generous amount of time. Dont go on instagram, snapchat, whatsapp etc to “see what is going on” go there with a motive, reply a text or put up a thought do that and then get back to reality. Apple currently offers screen time you can check that to see where you spend most of your time when you pick up you phone. It would really help you know where to cut down and what to reduce etc.

2. EARLY NIGHTS. EARLY MORNINGS

TIME SAVED: depends on you

This is so vital. Sleeping early means we can get up early. I’ve been intentionally sleeping by latest 1am (goal is 12am) so i can be up by 6am(still working on this) That way I can practically prepare for my day, pray, have bible study and read before my classes & maybe once in a while work on a post or two ( reality: I just come up with one or two sentences lol and usually develop the ideas later)

On days I’m up early I’m always more active & my mind definitely more alert. I’m happier and lively too. So, I think this would be something to consider.

3. LESS NETFLIX & CHILL/YOUTUBE/INSTAGRAM SUGGESTION VIDEOS/etc

TIME SAVED: 2+ hours

YouTube Binge watching sessions are my obsession. (Okay, maybe not obsession but you get the idea) if you think about it, we spend A LOT of time on Netflix or other movie sites. Watching two less movies a week, 2 less episodes of stranger things, or those funny Instagram videos you’ve already seen multiple times , you can definitely save a good chunk of time each day/week. Instead listen to a short podcast on something you are struggling with, watch a 7minute video on how to be better at something you love doing, Read a short article that could help you practically in life etc.

4.USE ALL YOUR LITTLE TIME

Time acquired: 2+ hours(debatable)

The little time we have during lesson breaks, the time you spend sitting in the cab/metro on your way home etc those little moments can come in handy. Instead of just sitting & scrolling down your Instagram/ just listening to music. Do something productive. Talk to God, read a page or two of the book you’ve been struggling to finish, recap on your class work etc if you’d add up all these little moments we have each day it could be an hour or more of lost time that we can put to good use.

5. Don’t PROCRASTINATE! – (note to self!)

Time saved: Dependent on oneself

This is as plain as it gets. Do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it and you will be able to do what you want when you want. It’s that simple. I’m such a procrastinator and It’s definitely one of the things I need to stop doing. And with just these five tips, depending on your lifestyle I have saved you almost 5 hours (give or take)

There are a lot more things we can apply into our daily lives to become better at time management and have more time to work on our talents, gifts & side hustles!
